Goring
The scene captures the most feared moment in bullfighting: the goring. The matador lies on the ground, trapped beneath the brutal charge of the bull. His body, still clad in the golden traje de luces, appears defeated and bloodied, in stark contrast to the raw power of the animal. The horns strike with violence, while the swirling background—painted in purples and crimson—intensifies the chaos and weight of the moment.
This painting does not depict triumph, but the cost. The matador’s vulnerability, his exposed humanity, interrupts the ritual and reveals the harsh reality of the risk. It is an image of impact—unflinching, painful—and forces the viewer to confront the darker side of the arena.
